Holistic Approaches: Flow, Voice and Inner Safety
Music makes people happy. Listening to your favorite music releases dopamine, which is associated with well-being and happiness. Listening to music together or singing together strengthens social bonds and the sense of belonging. But what does this look like in a professional setting? The metaphor of a goldfish in a shark tank sums it up perfectly: To move the audience with our music, we need a great sensitivity. To survive in the business, however, we also need a strong constitution, and resilience. Finding the balance here is an exciting challenge and can also enrich our work. Finding ways so that the joy remains. Artistic presence and joy emerges from the interplay of inner safety, relationship and context.
This keynote weaves together mental training, artistic and pedagogical experience, and the voice as a medium of expression and self‑ regulation.
At its core are flow states — in contrast to moments of freeze or inner stasis — and the question of how singers, musicians and teachers can recognise and work with these states in practice.
Alongside individual approaches, the keynote also reflects on pedagogical and institutional responsibility. Dialogically conceived, it combines short impulses, exchange with the audience and brief practical sequences, inviting participants to think of artistic practice in a holistic, conscious and deeply human way.
Let’s dive into this vast and exciting field together.
