About Session
Microphone Technique and All the Other Technical Shizzle Singers Should Know
Half of what an audience hears isn’t just the voice. It’s the microphone, how it’s used, and everything happening after it: EQ, compression, reverb, delay, and the sound engineer’s magic (or mischief) at the desk. Yet many singers and voice teachers rarely get hands-on training in this crucial part of vocal performance.
This interactive workshop will equip you with the knowledge and practical tools to guide singers through the world of live sound. Together we’ll explore:
How to choose and handle microphones to do justice to every voice.
The essentials of EQ, compression, and effects, and how they shape vocal color.
How to design a personal sound that supports artistic identity.
How to communicate effectively with sound engineers before and during a performance.
And this is not a “sit-back-and-listen” session. Participants will be invited to experiment, play, and test what they’ve learned – if they dare! Expect live demonstrations, myth-busting, and plenty of “aha!” moments. You’ll leave confident in helping singers avoid technical pitfalls, make informed gear choices, and approach sound checks with calm, clarity, and authority rather than stress.
