About Session
Jean-Yves Bosse Vidal – Singing teacher – Hispanist – Phonetician
Although Italian has always been considered as the best language for studying singing, this can be questioned nowadays from different points of view: cultural, historical, phonetic, and educational. Castilian is the official language in 20 countries, second largest in the world in terms of native speakers. Most importantly it is generally ranked as the third most studied language in the world, which makes it familiar to many singing students. It is an easy language to pronounce, very approachable in vocal exercises and sung repertoire, and certainly very rewarding side by side with Italian. Singing in Spanish is also a doorway to a vast gratifying repertoire that is hardly familiar to many teachers around the world: zarzuela, oratorio, art songs, opera, flamenco etc. In this workshop, I will present: – A short panorama of Spanish vocal history, – The basis of the Castilian phonetic system, – The Spanish version of the Vaccaj Method that I am finishing implementing. 3 students will sing individually: – 1 Vaccaj in Italian, – The same in Spanish, – A piece of Zarzuela, art song, tonada, villancico or popular song from Spain or South America.
