Stand up, take a breath, Tell the truth – A Choral Singing Workshop
Singing possesses a profound emotive power that transcends both language and culture. Whether it’s a soulful ballad, an uplifting anthem, or a heartfelt lullaby, singing has the remarkable ability to convey a wide spectrum of feelings – from joy and love to sadness and nostalgia. Through the melody, rhythm, and lyrics, singers can communicate their innermost emotions, connecting with both themselves and their audiences on a deeply emotional level. In this interactive workshop we will explore this phenomenon first-hand by singing together in harmony and experimenting with how emotive intent can change the way a song communicates and is received by the listener. The session will focus on a choral arrangement that participants will learn and perform together, and which they will also be welcome to take away to share with their own choirs and vocal groups. Key areas for exploration include choral texture, tone and dynamic, as well as practical tools for extracting meaning and emotion from the repertoire.
