studied German and English at TU Berlin and is Associate Professor of Modern German Literature at the Carolo-Wilhelmina University of Technology in Braunschweig; he has also been President of the Lessing Academy since 2012 and President of the Israel Jacobson Network, of which he is one of the founders, since 2020. Dissertation: Moses Mendelssohn’s “Jerusalem”. A contribution to the history of human rights and pluralistic society (2001, 2nd ed. 2011); habilitation thesis: Das Wagnis der Autonomie (2012). Current book publications: Wilhelm von Humboldt Handbook.
