About Giuseppina Cortesi

Born in Bergamo, she followed her musical studies at the “Gaetano Donizetti” Musical Institute of her city, graduating in Viola, in Artistic Singing and obtaining the Level II Academic Diploma for the interpretive singing school, with top marks . She specialized with Piermiranda Ferraro, Seta Del Grande and Guglielmo Gazzani; participated in Masterclasses with Fedora Barbieri. She attended the Verdiana Academy of Busseto, taught by Carlo Bergonzi. She was the winner in 1990 of the “Mattia Battistini” National Competition in Rieti. She made her debut in the role of Violetta Valery in “La Traviata” by G. Verdi at the Teatro Flavio Vespasiano in Rieti directed by Franca Valeri. She has collaborated in theatrical productions with conductors such as: Nikša Bareza, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Maurizio Arena, Marco Balderi, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Bruno Campanella. She attended the Higher Education Course in Artistic Vocology at the University of Bologna, carrying out the thesis: “Terminology and tradition in the teaching of opera singing”. The work obtained a Commendation and publication in the VI volume “The singer’s voice” Edizioni Omega, edited by Franco Fussi. She obtained the Master’s Degree for Music Operators for Children’s and Youth Orchestras at the University of Florence, Department of Educational Sciences and Psychology with full marks and honours. She is a certified trainer of the “La Voce Liberata” method by Iva Barthélémy with whom she became a close collaborator until she conceived and became a founding member of the Italian Association dedicated to her and trainer of the method; Translates and revises the Italian edition of his book “Liberare la Voce: artistic and scientific pedagogical foundations” of the “La voix levrèe” method – Edizioni Volonté. She followed the Advanced Training Course in Expert in the elastic proprioceptive method (PROEL) for the treatment of voice disorders – Menendez Pelayo International University. She studied the physiology of singing at the “Nuova Artec” Phoniatric Center in Milan. She participated in various refresher courses on the Teaching and Physiology of Singing, in Teramo at the Braga Institute, in Ravenna at “La Voce Artistica”, in Palermo at the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory, in Modena at the Bibiena theatre, in Lucca at Lucca in Voice, in Milan at Posturalmed. She is a speaker at many conferences on the artistic voice throughout Italy. She was a teacher at the G. Donizzaetti Conservatory of Bergamo and currently at the F. Vittadini Conservatory of Pavia. In 1996 she founded the Centro Musica in Lemine operating in the Bergamo area of which she is still director. In 2016 the book was published: The secrets of the voice – Jazz singing and Opera singing compared, the result of an in-depth study of comparison between the two styles with the co-author Daniela Panetta. The book has scientific inserts edited by Franco Fussi (Aracne editions).
