About Maya Boog
The Swiss soprano has sung at venues including Zurich Opera House, Grand Théâtre de Genève, New National Theatre Tokyo, Vienna Volksoper, Komische Oper Berlin, Opéra Berlioz in Montpellier, Prague State Opera, performing roles such as Violetta, Gilda, Marguerite, Poppea, Pamina, Mimì, Susanna, Contessa, etc., as well as at festivals such as the Bregenz Festival, Mozart Weeks Salzburg, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Festival Radio France, the Kissinger Sommer and many more. As a sought-after lieder and concert singer, she has made guest appearances at major music centers such as the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonic Halls, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Casino Basel, the Vienna Musikverein, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, and the Federation Concert Hall in Hobart. From 2001 to 2009, she was a member of the opera ensemble at Theater Basel and returned there repeatedly until 2014 to perform major roles, for example Susanna, Calisto, Asteria in Gluck’s “Telemaco” in co-production with the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, Ginevra in Handel’s “Ariodante,” Manon in Massenet’s opera and Antonia in “Les contes d’Hoffmann.” At the end of 2009, she played Mimì in the successful live production “La Bohème im Hochhaus” by Swiss television SRF and ARTE. The human body in all its facets has fascinated her for many years and she has studied the human system intensively. She is a trained yoga teacher, Thai yoga massage therapist, and, since June 2022, a certified biodynamic craniosacral therapist. As a lecturer in “Vocal Body Training” at the Zurich University of the Arts, she was responsible for familiarizing young singers with their instrument – the body – in various ways, thus creating an optimal basis for liberated, authentic singing. Since retiring from her active singing career in 2023, she has been working in her own practice as a craniosacral therapist, mainly accompanying singers and other musicians on their path of development, giving sound baths and leading workshops.
